Announcement

Amodo Design has been selected by the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) as one of nine Activation Partners. The Activation Partners are tasked with unlocking latent ideas, empowering talent, supporting new ventures, and building an entrepreneurial science community in the UK. We’re thrilled to partner with ARIA and to join an esteemed group working as Activation Partners:

  • Google DeepMind
  • Cambridge University Health Partners
  • 50 Years
  • Pillar VC
  • Amodo Design
  • Nucleate UK
  • Renaissance Philanthropy
  • Convergent Research Inc
  • Cambridge Innovation Centre (CIC - Venture Cafe)

Our partnership with ARIA focuses on providing engineering design and prototyping to R&D Creators (the individuals and teams carrying out ARIA-funded research) and bringing systems engineering thinking to ARIA programmes.

This partnership marks the next step in the engineering journey Amodo has been on over the last 18 months.  It specifically addresses a key gap we’ve identified in the UK’s R&D ecosystem: the need for stronger collaboration between design engineers and scientists.

In the 20th Century, scientists and engineers worked together. Looking back at the Cavendish lab or the LMB you can see that new scientific discoveries often followed new engineering breakthroughs. In most academic and industrial research labs this link has been broken. Without access to expert engineering support, scientists often have to choose between shoehorning their research into off-the-shelf equipment or abandoning promising research tracks for lack of appropriate equipment.

Our team of engineers is partnering with ARIA to remove this constraint. We will be working with ARIA’s core team, programme directors, and R&D Creators to develop new hardware that allows them to pursue ambitious moonshot research.

Our mechanical, electronic, firmware, and software engineers will be on hand to support throughout the R&D lifecycle. This will draw on our experience developing new scientific equipment, quickly prototyping components, and designing and prototyping inventions to take them from the lab to market.

We are committed to supporting ARIA’s ambitious vision for scientific progress. This partnership enables us to discover innovative ways to fast-track research and apply the resulting insights. We’re committed to sharing these insights, helping to foster change across the UK that encourages closer collaboration between scientists and engineers to shape future inventions.
